FREE guided tour of Cedar Grove Beach Club - Sunday September 26

Architect and historian Josh Jacobs will detail the history of Cedar Grove Beach Club during a free guided tour tomorrow at 4 p.m. At the event, hosted by the Preservation League of Staten Island, participants will get a glimpse into the 99-year-old summer community.
The city Parks Department plans to reclaim the privately leased stretch of land to create a public beach and park when the beach club’s lease expires on Thursday. Cedar Grove was one of many beach colonies that dotted the shoreline during the Island’s heyday as a resort community. Cedar Grove was recently designated as eligible for listing to the State and National Register of Historic Places by the State Historic Preservation Office, which labeled it a “rare surviving property type in New York City.” Parks plans to challenge that designation. The tour will start at the foot of Ebbits Street.
